Performance guarantee

What is actually promised, and the conditions attached to it.

What it means

A commitment to a result, or to a remedy if the result does not arrive. In search the honest versions promise a remedy rather than a ranking, because nobody controls the ranking. Continued service at no charge, a refund window, or a break-even undertaking are the common shapes.

Any guarantee that names a position on a results page should be read carefully. Positions vary by searcher, device and location, so a guarantee of a number-one ranking is a guarantee about something that does not have a single value.

Why it matters in HVAC

The condition attached to almost every guarantee in this trade is that you answer the phone. Agencies are protecting themselves against a real pattern: leads arrive, nobody calls back inside the hour, and the campaign gets blamed for a conversion problem that belongs to dispatch.

That makes the conditions the substantive part of the document. A break-even guarantee depending on a fully maintained CRM is a guarantee about your operations as much as their work.

How to check it

Read what triggers the remedy, what the remedy is, and what you must do to stay eligible. Then decide whether you would actually meet those conditions in August. A guarantee you cannot satisfy during your busiest month is not a guarantee.

A guarantee with its conditions written out

TradeOps Consulting publishes what it calls a leave-in-the-green transparency guarantee. It declines to promise fast results, and commits that clients working with it for at least six months who are unsatisfied will continue to receive service at no cost until a break-even result is reached.

Three conditions are attached and they are printed alongside it: complete the onboarding course, act on the advice given, and maintain a fully updated CRM with lead value and closed sales data, verified against third-party software and accounting records.

The third condition is doing most of the work. A shop that cannot produce verified closed-sales data cannot invoke the guarantee, and plenty of $7M operators cannot produce that today. Whether that makes the guarantee weak or simply honest depends on how good your numbers are, which is the useful question it forces you to ask.
